The Golden Rockets
BIO
The Golden Rockets play country music. Not new country, not young country, or any other fancy permutation. The Rockets (named after Hank Snow’s 1950 celebration of railroad travel) aren’t overly studious, and don’t adhere to any special set of rules, they just play what feels right. It just happens to fall under the banner of traditional country music, be it Appalachian, Bakersfield or Nashville before Garth arrived.
In addition to a wealth of original material, the selection of cover tunes runs the gamut from Louvin Brothers to Loretta Lynn.
Individually the players have an impressive list of achievements:
Linda McRae (vocals/guitar/accordion) spent a decade with Spirit Of The West, recording numerous gold and platinum records before departing in ‘97 and releasing her solo debut, Flying Jenny (Stony Plain/Warner Bros) a rootsy effort that has received a stack of plaudits.
Shelly Campbell (vocals/guitar) fronts Auburn, a country roots act whose debut disc, Misfit Cafe has just been released. Previously she has toured and recorded with Dobb & Dumela.
Jack McLeod (vocals/guitar) has made fans through his tasty Clarence White-goes-to-Bakersfield inspired guitar playing with Vancouver alt. country acts including Mac Pontiac, Slack and as a founding member of the Swagmen, a surf instrumental group.
Helming the rhythm section, John Cody has seen duty with a lengthy list of acts, including Ray Condo & His Ricochets, Cement City Cowboys, and the Stringbenders.
On bass is Rob Becker, who in addition to touring with Patricia Conroy on all of her major label releases and performing with Megan Metcalfe, has played with John in a number of acts, including Wyckham Porteous, Gaye Delorme and the Broadcast Kings.
Rounding out the group on pedal steel is Charlie Hase, who’s seen duty with Dick Dameron, The Blue Shadows, and Gary Fjellgaard.
